Can old flames be rekindled?

or did they die out for a reason?

Last night I was out with a group of friends who are visiting from Europe. I’ve not seen them in almost a decade but it was more distance that kept us (literally) apart, than anything else..

As is often the case in a small town – word got out of our gathering and at one point there was over a dozen of us sitting drinking & reminiscing, but eventually it dwindled down to the core group of us from the ‘old’ days and the memories came flooding back..

One of the guys was someone I had a fling with.. well, I guess you’d call it a fling. We spent the Summer together.. And since we all lived in the same villa, it meant we were virtually together the entire time. If we weren’t working, we’d be planning (or recovering from) some sort of fun activity, we did so love to party..

They were halcyon days, in far simpler times. God I sound like I’m 102 not 42 lol.. anyway .. they were good times and I have many fond memories of those days.

He’s since moved to London and is some hot shot banker – over here to visit family for the Summer.

Life has taken us both in fairly different directions but last night saw us reconnect in a very obvious way (NOT that way, you pervs!) I was pretty sure it was happening, but wasn’t entirely sure if it wasn’t more the sunshine, the booze.. or just my imagination.

It wasn’t until I was in the bathroom with a gal-pal (as we do!) who nudged me and pointed out that she could see the sparks flying too, that I realised it wasn’t my imagination.

I do wonder though..

A) What’s the point, he’s going to be here for just a few more weeks.

B) We didn’t work out originally. There was a reason.. although for the life of me I can’t really recall it .. But why go there a 2nd time when it didn’t work first time round?

But hey, no one ever accused me of being sensible, we’re all going out again on a bit of a drinks, dinner and dancing binge tonight – I shall keep you posted on how it pans out..

  1. A sort of cancels out B. So just go for it and have fun.

  2. Timing. Is. Everything. Let the sparks fly and the fire ignite. Woohoo 🙂

  3. Go for it! The problems that kept you from being happy years ago may be gone. You have UHP (Unlimited Happiness Potential) and you shouldn’t be afraid to use it! You ROCK!

  4. People change and sometimes become wiser and more mature as they get more experience in life. I say that if there are sparks, why not see if they lead to a flame?

  5. Depends, are you looking to smoosh privates, or lips? Lips only, I’d say no, privates, I’d say very good possibility.

  6. What’s the point? When we leave this life, the only thing we get to take with us are the memories. Consider all you still have after that summer you spent together. I say YES– no, hell yes old flames can be rekindled.

  7. The hardest reason not to get together is distance, because it’s frustrating that everything else seems to be working well.

  8. Right.. everything is tweezed, bleached, waxed, shaved, straightened and primped to within an inch of its life.. I even put on my slutty matching red lingerie..

OK fine, its not @ all slutty, it’s just red. I have this personal hang up that makes me think red lingerie is slutty .. Mothers do have a lot to be answerable for sheesh..

Shame I’ll be fall down drunk in a few hours time but hey that’s all part of my charm *snort* (Snorting is another part of my charm… Can’t take me anywhere twice … well, maybe the 2nd time to apologise…)

I’m outta here, wish me luck! 🙂

  9. I know I’m not the same person I was one year ago, let alone many. You have probably both changed in your time apart and there’s no saying the reasons you broke up haven’t worked themselves out.

    Good luck 🙂

  10. Well everyone else pretty much summed it up. Stop thinking about it so much and just have some fun. Good luck!

  11. Perhaps the timing is right this time? If the sparks are still there, that too says something. So, come on, what HAPPENED???

  12. Here is where that friends with benefits comes into play.

  13. OMG, just go for it and enjoy!!! He’s changed, you’ve changed, life situations have changed, so says that the reason you didn’t work out the first time applies now! There are many people who meet years later and reconnect and go on to fulfill the dreams they shared a long time ago! Throw caution to the wind and see where it takes you….but let us know!!

  14. So I tried to be good and read this first before I skip right to the morning after *wink*! LOL!! I think most people tend to double back just because we are on familiar grounds with our ex…especially if the sex is good! No shame it putting out an old flame! Well just know there is an after taste that comes with it all though…the problem is one never know if it will be a good or bad one…Hope it turned out to be a good one…Let me go to your next post!

  15. I hope you had a great time, either way! 🙂

  16. Well you’ve all seen my “morning after” post, there is an update to come on the last week also .. but for now I have a friend coming to take me out for a coffee… back in a bit where I will then set to with my update 🙂

  17. This post has pretty sweet suspense. I don’t care what happens(ed). Just like the the possibilities presented…
