Astrology, Art, Music & .. Stuff

So I’m a Capricorn. Do you know what capricorns are famous for? Being assholes. We’re cold, “stoic”, methodical, stuck up, calculating and generally awful. Some days I don’t think I am a very good Capricorn .. cos, well .. I’m not that methodical..  😉

But it is helpful to be Capricorn (this is where the stoic thing comes in handy). For example: the times when your more liberal / artsy friends drag you to a show or poetry reading. I don’t know why they bother, but they do!

And so it is we may sometimes be found in the latest trendy art gallery – confronted with a bunch of stuff that I don’t even pretend to understand .. and these friends, well.. bless their hemp socks – they look at me with pained and anxious expressions .. as my eyes glaze over (only focussing when I check my watch..)

Of course, I DO know why they take me along – so they can josh me about it later, not for any altruistic reasons. Cos the bastards take turns to mock me mercilessly afterwards, as we relax in a place where I’m far more at home: a bar or restaurant.

Another thing I am often mocked for is my taste in music. Or lack of taste, some would say.

See the thing is I like a wide range of music. Be it popular, hip hop, opera, country or rock. Although I do tend to err toward easy. (Like I prefer my men!) Give me Elton, Billy, Eric, or the Eagles any day!

I’m old, I like to understand the words and caterwaul sing along.

So it’s fair to say that whenever I am around people who really “get” their music (and there’s more than a few of you out there on WordPress) I feel terribly insecure and just a liddle stupid.

Bit like when I am in the book shop getting the latest Dan Brown blockbuster novel and the dude next to me in the queue is tightly clutching “Letters from Ayn Rand” or – as already mentioned, I’m in an art gallery and I cannot for the life of me see what everyone else sees..

Where am I going with this?

Well, Mr New is a music fan. And he sent me the link to this song overnight, telling me it was his favourite song at the moment. I have to confess, I have never listened to a Metallica song in my life. Or if I have, I didn’t know it was them..

But for all that lack of awareness, this song wasn’t what I was expecting .. it was a lot ‘softer’ than I expected their music to be..

So tell me .. What do the lyrics say and / or mean?!?

Yeah yeah, I know .. Don’t over-analyse. But I wanna! And I can’t .. cos I’m not a music officianado.. *grumbles*

  1. I went to high school with the guys in Metallica. Didn’t really like them Don’t really like their music now. But I am an Aries, so I guess that explains it.

  2. oooooo ahhhh… Metalica…. very nice! Well Capricorn…. I’m a hobbit. You know what Hobbits do….???? I have no clue, but when you find out, let me know ok 😛

  3. hmmmm….. I thought I might try to date a Capricorn next (cosmo says I should!! 😉 but the “doesn’t like art” thing might be a problem. Please tell me that is just a female Cap trait!

    • Oh god male Capricorns are a very complex individual!! Cold, is very much a good adjective as is career driven. And emotion-less. Are you sure about this!??! Cosmo may just be wrong this time round *grins*

  4. Couldn’t you look the song up on the internet to get the lyrics? Then at least you would have them whether you understand them or not.

    • I did that straight away but as I said, I’m not even remotely arty or poetic so find anything other than very simple statements ambiguous. Hence asking to see what other people thought it may mean. And to be honest, it may mean nothing except oh yeah he likes that song LOL

  5. Lynda’s got the right idea – go look up the lyrics. I just did, and I think that Mr New is using this song to express how he feels about you and your new relationship together, and the message is very positive. This is a good thing! 🙂

    • Yeah Chris I went there too .. mostly cos I got the whole distance thing, since he’s in Europe, but then I started over analysing my analysis *grins*

      • You there! Stop that!

“Trust I seek and I find in you
Every day for us something new
Open mind for a different view
        and nothing else matters”

There is nothing to over analyze here. It’s an affirmation that he trusts you and values what you and he have found in this new experience together with each other. The message is beautiful in it’s simplicity – so don’t over complicate it.

  6. I agree with Chris, it’s a good thing! But male capricorns?? I’m married to one. A-Type majorly, sensitive, emotional, loyal, funny, strong willed, leader, dedicated, speaks what he feels whether I like it or whether its nice or not… guess I will take the good and the bad. I’m a Leo, so I’m a “leader” too Ha!

    • Competitive, A Type – yes I forgot that bit .. no I didn’t. I am that too .. yuk heheh

Ironically, Mr New and my star signs are meant to be exceptionally bad matches… which does not help my mindset when I am of a mind to over-think schtuff *grin*

And I agree with Chris too .. I’m frightfully agreeable! 😉

  7. Oh and Competitive!! our race is tomorrow!!! North American time 10am! Then it’s drinking time!! 🙂

  8. I don’t think it matters so much that you are not a Metallica fan as much as the fact that you listened and were interested in what the lyrics mean.

  9. Well I’m Libra. I’m one of the artsy fartsy types and I love this song. I do like Metallica and really all rock music. This is a very positive song. It’s about trusting each other when every one says your up against impossible odds. Whether he means that or is just telling you his favorite song is up to him. I’d ask him if he meant anything by it.

    • heheh helllo artsy farty type! I have never been a rock fan that I know of but did enjoy the song and as you say – the words trust (etc) are positive and kinda stack up against discussions we have .. for all he isn’t the most open about his feelings.. Something I am learning to adapt to 🙂

Not gonna ask the question tho .. maybe one day, but not right now .. my gut tells me it wouldn’t be apt to.

  10. It’s a diabolical plan to suck you in to liking metal. It starts with the ballads, and then you wake up at a Metallica concert with your arm in the air holding your Zippo.

  11. Here’s the whole thing (lyrics):
So close, no matter how far
Couldn’t be much more from the heart
    Forever trusting who we are
    and nothing else matters

    Never opened myself this way
Life is ours, we live it our way
All these words I don’t just say
    and nothing else matters

Trust I seek and I find in you
Every day for us something new
Open mind for a different view
    and nothing else matters

never cared for what they do
never cared for what they know
    but I know

So close, no matter how far
Couldn’t be much more from the heart
    Forever trusting who we are
    and nothing else matters

never cared for what they do
never cared for what they know
    but I know

    Never opened myself this way
Life is ours, we live it our way
All these words I don’t just say

Trust I seek and I find in you
Every day for us, something new
Open mind for a different view
    and nothing else matters

never cared for what they say
never cared for games they play
never cared for what they do
never cared for what they know
    and I know

So close, no matter how far
Couldn’t be much more from the heart
    Forever trusting who we are
    No, nothing else matters

I sort of second (or third) what the others said … he’s probably using the lyrics to say that he likes you, feels like he can trust you, and likes that knowing you expands his perspective.

or else he’s just into Metallica, and wants to see you wearing tight leather pants, holding your zippo in the air, waving and weaving to the clanging of the drums as the guitars scream

  12. trust me, that dude clutching “Letters from Ayn Rand” is a bigger asshole than you’ll ever be. continue…

What do you think? I'd love to hear from you ..
